Our Approach

Change for Kids’ priority is to engage children in underserved communities early in their educational careers so that they can stay on track academically. Children who leave elementary school not reading proficiently and without core social-emotional competencies are more likely to drop out of high school. This risk is greatest for students from low-income communities.

Working with school leadership, we support their efforts to improve literacy, social-emotional learning, and community engagement so that our students have the skills they need to be prepared for success in middle school and beyond.

Currently, we serve almost 5,000 students at 13 partner schools in all five NYC boroughs. Our goal is that every Change for Kids partner school has the resources to deliver a quality education to their students.

Our Model

The Change for Kids community works together to put our students on the path to success. CFK School Managers, in partnership with principals and teachers, identify the needs of each CFK partner school and manage a mix of resources, including leadership support; academic enrichment and engagement programs; and volunteers and corporate sponsors.
