Principal Scott Wolfson grew up in the Bronx and has worked in the Bronx schools for over 20 years. "When I arrived as principal in January 2014," he says, "the school was in crisis. As a phase-in school replacing a failing one, our children were overwhelmingly needy and behind in their academic, social, and emotional development." In the community around P.S. 314, 85% of children are born into poverty and the overwhelming majority of the 347 students at them receive free or reduced lunch. But in just over a year, Principal Wolfson and his team have set P.S. 314 back on the path to success. "In order to make P.S. 314 the successful Bronx school that I have always envisioned," says Principal Wolfson, "we need adequate resources for our students, professional development for our teachers, and systems and structures for our school community." Change for Kids is proud to help bring those resources to P.S. 314 and to be a part of its continued growth.
