Making Reading and Writing Fun

Budget cuts have increased class sizes and forced principals to cut critical staff positions, such as literacy specialists and librarians. All of our partner schools have lost staff in the last three years who were dedicated to specifically helping the most at-risk students. At CFK, we have responded to this need by supporting our schools on multiple fronts when it comes to literacy enrichment. Our literacy programs range from individualized tutoring for low performing students, to newspaper clubs, to inspiring creative writing workshops aimed at developing a love of writing rather than a fear of high-stakes tests.
